ORA and Vana support r/datadao to create first ever user-owned onchain AI model.
It’s your data, if you train the model, you should own the model: ORA and Vana support the Reddit Data DAO to launch the world’s first user-owned AI model trained on user-owned data.
In a massive leap forward for decentralized AI, ORA, Vana, and Reddit Data DAO are announcing a collaboration to launch the world’s first Initial Model Offering (IMO) for a user-owned AI model, trained with user-owned data.
The Reddit Data DAO made waves earlier this year as it amassed the largest community-owned collection of users’ GDPR/CCPA data exports in response to Reddit announcing it would sell user data to Google for $60M a year. In addition to amassing large sums of public Reddit data, r/datadao has also been able to enrich its dataset with messages, and other user information obtained via CCPA/GDPR requests and held securely and permission onchain, using Vana.
With the support of ORA’s innovative Onchain AI Oracle (OAO) framework and Vana’s robust and secure L1 private data infrastructure, the r/datadao now aims to deploy and commercialize an AI model trained on its dataset by the end of Q3 2024. The Reddit Language Model ($RLM) is a collectively-owned language learning model developed using user-owned Reddit data aggregated by r/datadao.
Preliminary analysis conducted by ex-Google ML engineers at the DAO’s behest in May proved promising, and with Vana's support, the DAO has now developed an early prototype LLM trained on the Reddit dataset. The LLM appears to capture the tone and sentiment of Reddit chatter incredibly well, particularly for shitposting. Among other features, r/datadao believes they can commercialize a chat-based model that can predict how typical Reddit users might react to posts across a wide range of topics. Common.xyz, a decentralized social platform, plans to use this to allow users to simulate what the response to their posts will be.
This collaboration enables r/datadao to build and deploy their model onchain in a secure environment and to conduct an IMO to fuel its development, deployment and commercialization.
“we are the number one data DAO the best in the world. thank you to our community and to our partners (ora and vana). our data is ai now. can you feel the acceleration?” said a Senator from r/datadao.
ORA showcases the capabilities of the OAO framework, establishing itself as a leader in putting AI onchain, and IMOs as a viable mechanism for collective model tokenization.
Vana, an L1 purpose-built for user-owned data, allows data DAOs to securely aggregate, and contribute data to train AI models by solving the double-spend problem for data and ensuring that economic upside is distributed among all who contribute to the end product.
This groundbreaking collaboration advances the development of decentralized, open-source AI models by offering a viable alternative to the open-source vs. closed-source dichotomy: collective onchain ownership. It signals a new frontier for decentralized AI: a pathway for monetizing and commercializing collectively owned datasets used in AI models like never before.
