A Time of Change

The new buzz word is change. We hear it on many fronts:  the war, Wall Street troubles, gas prices, and unemployment.  Now we have a new president, a new Congress and our traditionally republican state has shown it is also changing.    As CRNAS we have a great opportunity to be on the forefront of this change.  It is a time for us to step up and be proactive.

 As your Federal Political Director (FPD) I have been given a challenge by the AANA and I need your help.  I need CRNAS who are ready to help and be an integral part of this change.  CRNAS who are interested in helping to educate our legislators concerning the importance of the services we provide for their constituents.

This may sound like too much work, too hard, and too time consuming.  But in actuality it is very simple and would only take a minimum amount of your time.  As FPD  I need to have one or two CRNAS in each congressional district to volunteer as a key contact.  This means that you and some of your colleagues will make a visit to your congressman’s home office.  On this brief visit with your delegate, you will educate your representative about our profession. You will be armed with speaking points to aid with this visit.

Sound Interesting?  Sound challenging?  I can promise you from my experience it will be one of the most empowering experiences of your career.  CRNAS are experts in our profession, we are safe, and we provide a great service.  We have lots to share with our legislators.  They need to know about the best kept secret in healthcare.
